Paddington Bear-a-Thon
The CLGO hosted a Paddington Bear-a-Thon at the Myers Park Library on Saturday, Jan. 19. Pictured (L-R) are Jordan Costanza, Samantha Holt, Shannon Murphy, Danny Anderson, and Cassie Grosh. Paddington the Bear debuted in 1958 in A Bear Called Paddington written by Michael Bond (1926-2017) and drawn by Peggy Fortnum (1919-2016). So beloved is the bear (who originally hails from Peru but is thoroughly British) that British tunnellers used a plush Paddington as the first item to pass through to France when the Channel Tunnel was completed in 1994.
