Creative Development & Marketing

Queen City Forward aims to dramatically increase the concentration and impact of social enterprises in Charlotte, NC. QCF will work to connect, enable, and scale Charlotte entrepreneurs and growth enterprises as they create high-impact solutions to some of our community’s and world’s most pressing challenges. This internship provides the opportunity to work in close collaboration with the Queen City Forward staff to increase the understanding, awareness, and engagement around social entrepreneurship in Charlotte and to cultivate a vibrant Queen City Forward community. A successful effort will catalyze Queen City Forward’s ability to help Charlotte:

  • Build the pipeline for next generation entrepreneurs
  • Enable social enterprises to get from seed to scale
  • Measure the economic, social, and environmental impact of social enterprises
  • Advocate on the social enterprise sectors behalf

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a full calendar of community events
  • Manage and coordinate monthly/bi-weekly events (Innovation Café, community lunches, monthly meet-ups, speaker series)
  • Create and conduct new events that foster and facilitate community-building
  • Develop and execute marketing plan to ensure high event attendance and participation that is driven by organizational goals and strategies
  • Bring together diverse groups to allow connections to occur without direct introductions
  • Track event attendance, participation, and impact
  • Pursue new partnerships with local organizations, businesses, groups to involve in QCF-sponsored events, or to host events out of the QCF event space
    • Partners may include: Packard Place, Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, Arts & Science Council, local colleges/universities
  • Spearhead Queen City Forward Winter Party
  • Identify and secure event sponsors
  • Coordinate logistics (vendors, bands, food, etc.)
  • Market and Advertise

Additional Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated understanding of event marketing and management, digital media
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to multi-task
  • Outgoing, creative, self-starter
  • Must work well with QCF team and embrace organizational mission. Previous entrepreneurial/leadership experience a plus.

Levine Museum of the New South

In preparation for our Native American exhibit, an intern would research the history of Native Americans in the Carolina Piedmont since 1865 and would then draft a gallery guide corresponding with the Museum’s main exhibit, Cotton Fields to Skyscrapers. The student would be responsible for conducting research, documenting bibliographical sources, producing a draft, and rewriting as necessary. Intern would meet regularly with supervising staff. Intern would be trained to give twice-monthly tours of the main exhibit. Applicant should have strong research, writing, and public speaking skills, a background in history, and interest in Native Americans in the Carolinas. The ideal candidate will have taken courses in Native American history

The Light Factory

The Light Factory is Charlotte’s premier Photography and Film Center dedicated to exhibition and education programs that promote the power of image. The Light Factory is currently seeking interns to assist with art administration duties and projects such as technical writing, website design, hanging exhibitions and coordinating special events. The Light Factory’s internships are unpaid and require interns to work a consistent weekly schedule. The Light Factory is looking for dedicated individuals who are interested in learning more about non-profit organizations and art administration (www.lightfactory.org)

The Mint Museum

Intern will be assigned to a division based upon his or her background and interests and the museum’s needs. Tasks may change as the focus of the internship changes. Divisions include Curatorial, Development, Education, Exhibit Design, Community Relations, and Registration. Career guidance sessions will be offered to help with educational and career planning decisions. The internship is designed to ensure that the intern becomes acquainted with all functions, programs, and departments of the museum. For the purpose of this internship, African-American, Asian- American, Latin-American, Native-American, or other minority candidates are especially encouraged to apply.
